Made with ink and gold leaf from the highest point of the Old City of Jerusalem, up the spiral stairs to the top of the spire of the Lutheran Church. I drew this over 4 months in 2015, documenting every window I could see over the Old City, over the Al Aqsa mosque and across to the Mount of Olives.

I used to hear this song at the Damascus Gate on Friday mornings. It seemed to be a mourning, and even without understanding the words it would always move me.

Mawtani means homeland. None so beautiful as Palestine ❤️
